The house of noted Michigan architect John Scott is the centerpiece of the six-building, forty-room boutique inn. It was built in the picturesque asymmetrical mix of medieval and classical motifs associated with the Queen Anne style at its best. The red brick, Portage Entry sandstone, and shingle building has a rich assortment of dormers, bays, a tower, and decorative chimneys. Half timbering and plasterwork finish the front and side gables, and decoratively carved shield motifs surrounded by foliation adorn the pediments of several gables. Rescued from a demolition-for-parking attempt, The Inn on Ferry Street is a preservation triumph.
