Egglestetton, a medium-sized plantation house, is a frame building of one-and-a-half stories with a gambrel roof pierced by typical Southside shed dormers. Gambrel-roofed houses occur in Tidewater Virginia but are relatively rare in Southside. The five bays of the house's facade are slightly irregular in the spacing of their windows. The house was built for Joseph Eggleston Jr., who served as a major under Henry “Light Horse Harry” Lee in the Continental Army and later as a Virginia congressman from 1798 to 1801. To the right of the house is an early-nineteenth-century frame kitchen with a central brick chimney.
