Built for the Walshes of Chicago, this Queen Anne cottage is Mackinac Island's finest private residential restoration to date. Both the house and grounds are restored to their original appearance. The carriage barn is rehabilitated and expanded to accommodate four to six horses and two staff apartments. The gardens are reconstructed to their original early-twentieth-century design with a front yard and arrival garden, side yard and service area, rear formal gardens, and the carriage house and vegetable gardens. Fences, stone walls, fountains, a lawn tennis court, and a swimming pool are included.

Walsh served as vice president of the Chicago and Southern Railway and later the Baltimore and Ohio Railraod.
