1922. 1603 Mandalay Dr.

A 56-room 1920s “mansion,” the Litchfield house included a gallery for target shooting, a gymnasium, a billiard room, and a bowling alley. The architectural image is a bit difficult to pin down; probably what was intended was a recollection of the Central European Baroque, though at a casual glance it almost looks Mission Revival. The building's site, overlooking the river to the north with parkland beyond, is a splendid one. The house is now enshrouded in unkempt vegetation, and it has suffered from conversions to various uses and more recently from a fire.
