1878–1884. 1017 Washington St.

The design of the Townsend house playfully combines a delicate version of the Italianate with a reference to Eastlake details. The entrance tower, its steeply pitched hipped roof broken by a single gable and four small dormers, is a classic example of the Eastlake style. The interior, with detailed woodwork and 11foot-high ceilings, is still intact. Externally the only missing item is the iron railing that stood atop the roof.
