1892, Frederick G. Clausen. 219 W. 2nd St. / 131 W. 2nd St., southeast corner of Main St.

The Davenport architect took the late Richardsonian Romanesque as his theme for this four-story retail department store building. He used stone for the base and red brick above; he carried out the ornamentation in terracotta. Clausen attracted attention to the two street entrances by treating them as slightly projecting pavilions with a round-arched window above; the third and fourth floors exhibit curved bay window units. The store's name in terracotta within the entablature is akin to the letterhead of business stationery.
