One of the last bluestone buildings to be erected in Honolulu, this imposing four-story structure combines Beaux-Arts elements, which were so popular in Honolulu in the immediate post-annexation years, with a Richardsonian Romanesque treatment of masonry and grouping of floors. The utilitarian fifth story was added in 1914 to house the Commercial Club. The elevator still retains vestiges of its later Art Deco decor.
