A coherent mixture of Western modern and traditional Chinese design, the building presents a facade of varied textures, typical of 1950s design in Hawaii. Stainless steel Chinese columns placed beside cast-stone planters with Chinese motifs combine with terrazzo flooring and marble panels to offer a tactile and visual experience within the thirty-foot length of the two-story, inset entrance. The building's rough concrete-brick first story and smooth, planar upper stories, with their stainless steel–framed bands of windows, offer additional materials and textural contrasts. A diagonal, off-center entrance leads to an outstanding 1950s-vintage interior with its curvilinear emphasis and fine koa woodwork.
