Sitting on a large terraced lawn above the street, Kaahumanu Church presides over Wailuku. The fourth building to house the congregation formed by the Protestant missionaries' expansion to Wailuku in 1832, this well-proportioned building with its imposing steeple, steep gabled roof, and gabled portico resembles a typical New England church, rendered in a Gothic mode. The ornate, tripartite bell tower with its clock was added in 1884. The simple interior includes a turned koa balustrade and an elaborately carved koa podium.
