This frame house built for the Derrickson family stands among old trees at the heart of a 200-acre farm in an area fast filling with development. Its appearance is little-changed: pilastered porch; odd center gable, much like an oversized dormer with mansard profile and a wide, pierced bargeboard; and a slate roof with colorful, patterned shingles (recently replaced). These embellishments were added in the 1880s to bring the simple, vernacular house up-to-date stylistically, as was often the case in prosperous nineteenth-century rural Delaware.
