Cohen Building

1866. 1325 E. Main St.

Important for its urban design qualities, this building adeptly fills the obtuse angle formed at the southwest corner of 14th and Main streets. Built soon after the close of the Civil War by one of Richmond's oldest Jewish families, the three-story brick structure had an elaborate rusticated base with segmental-arched openings in which goods were displayed. The upper two floors are relatively plain with sharpedged window openings.
