1849–1870. East side of High and Lafayette sts. (WV 62), south of intersection with Walnut St.

The oldest town between Charleston and Point Pleasant, Buffalo was settled around 1802, platted in 1834, and officially established by act of the Virginia General Assembly in 1837. This three-building complex fronting an informal “square” brings to mind a New England village green.
