After Bramwell's business district burned on January 7, 1910, the town council decreed that all buildings in the core area would be built of brick or stone. Bramwell's merchants usually chose brick, and this single, one-sided block of postfire commercial structures shows a fine consistency in style, scale, and material. Several stores have deep overhanging cornices, and all have first-floor display windows, some of which have been reworked. The Bryant Building (1910, Walter J. Smith; northwest corner of Main and Bloch sts.) still contains fittings from the time it housed the Bryant and Newbold Pharmacy, local purveyors of Chanel No. 5.
