This small one-and-a-half-story frame structure on a stone basement initially may have been a one-story eighteenth-century residence that, perhaps when it became a tavern in 1818, had an upper story added as an overhang, a feature more at home in New England than in Pittsylvania County. It is heated on both floors by a large exterior-end chimney of fieldstone with an offset brick stack with a corbeled cap. The front porch and rear stoop are reconstructions.
