One of numerous post offices designed under the direction of Simon, this one, like others, is an understated Colonial Revival building. The one-story five-bay post office has a slate roof, modillion cornice, a molded brick water table, and a Doric-pilastered frontispiece with triglyphs and metopes. Like many of Simon's smaller post offices, Chatham's has a fine WPA mural. Here Carson Davenport created Harvest Season in Southern Virginia (1938).
