Built a few years apart in groups of two and three, this block of one-story buildings presents a unified front. Shallow brick pilasters separate the storefronts (many of which have been modified) set beneath ornamented-brick panels, some embellished with basketweave brick panels and a single row of brick in a sawtooth pattern. Their crowning cornices are corbeled. Very few commercial blocks of one-story brick structures are still standing in the state and it is doubtful that many were ever built. The small Classical Revival People's Bank (c. 1911) at 87 S. Main was designed by Heard and Cardwell.
