Baird, probably Petersburg's most prolific building contractor from c. 1783 until 1823, constructed four houses on this street. This building's earliest portion is the double-pile, one-and-a-half-story frame section with a side-passage plan and a raised, stone foundation with a cellar kitchen, as was usual for kitchens in urban contexts. In a variant sometimes seen in Southside, a taller two-story wing with a cellar dining room, a large and elegant parlor, and a spacious upper-floor chamber was added to the earlier house. The elaborate interior finishings with woodwork similar to those at Centre Hill's (DW40) are in contrast to its simple exterior.
