The oldest surviving building on this block of Broad Street is this four-story brick structure. It has granite window dressings, but its major feature is the mansard roof. Richmond never took to the mansard mode for commercial buildings. Hence this structure is unusual for its pretense to the glamour associated with the Second Empire style.
