Designed by a Washington, D.C., architect, this modern skyscraper is a monument to Mies van der Rohe's axiom, “Less is more.” Mies's Seagram Building in New York (1956) provided the basic motif for the base and curtain wall. Remarkably, the Ross Building has escaped exterior alterations and is as fresh today as the day it was built. Its glass curtain wall provides a refreshing contrast to many of the bombastic or clumsily detailed office buildings later built in Richmond.
