Built on the highest elevation in Waco, the stylized Egyptian pylons of the Grand Lodge express the timelessness, importance, and mystery of this institution. As the first lodge in the new republic, many of Texas's early leaders were members as the lodge shifted locations before settling in Waco. The Moderne-influenced masses and low-relief sculptures were a generation out of date by 1948 but still convey an exoticism appropriate to the Masonic order. This building is the Grand Lodge of Texas and includes a library and archive. Tours of the building are held on a limited schedule.
