Randle-Rather Building

Randle-Rather Building

Randle-Rather Building James Graham Family
1896. 427 St. George St.

This commanding three-story brick structure dominates the north side of the courthouse square and the entire block of St. George Street with its row of smaller brick commercial buildings. The building's five-part composition has an unusual central bay of recessed balconies framed with columns, capped by a stone arch, and topped by an arcaded fourth story. The tall arcaded ground-floor loggia and projecting end bays would make the house stand out in a much larger city.
