Borrowing the name of its legendary nearby neighbor, San Antonio's domed sports arena is distinctive for the use of native limestone for the outside walls and for the dramatic external support system of the roof. Reinforced-concrete masts carry the roof by a web of steel cables, giving the design a taller silhouette than most facilities of this type. The interior's clearspan space allows seating for 65,000 for football games, and movable curtain walls can create seating for basketball games from 30,000 to 44,000, depending on the event.
