This three-story jail from the Pauly Jail Building Company of St. Louis appears to be just two stories tall. Built of local rock-faced limestone, the first-floor walls are braced by prominent buttresses and rise to a continuous sill course, above which the upper walls step back. The tall windows of the upper walls conceal the reality of a two-story jail cell block within. The jail in Fredericksburg (
NB47) is strikingly similar, although not attributed to the Pauly Company.
