The most striking feature of the inn is its extraordinarily long 160-foot facade, completely shaded by a two-story Greek Revival porch. The stonework of the inn is also impressive, especially the original central block where the limestone blocks are most monumental in scale. The property has been thoughtfully renovated and is once again in service as a hotel. Robert E. Lee was a guest at this hotel during his pre–Civil War military service in Texas.
