1992, William T. Cannady and Associates. 2701 Kirby Dr.

This three- and four-story bank building, faced with limestone and subtly detailed steel components, exemplifies Postmodern urbanism at its best. Its asymmetrical organization, with the hint of a tower above the entrance bay, evokes Ralph Adams Cram's Italianate dormitories at Rice University, where William Cannady is a professor of architecture. The building foregrounds tectonic refinement rather than stylistic fulsomeness, embodying the sense of dignified restraint associated with urban architecture.
