The subdivision of Calder Place, developed on the north side of Calder Avenue between 19th and 23rd streets, was built out in the 1930s, with many of its houses designed by Beaumont architects. During their partnership, Douglas E. Steinman Jr. and Albert S. Golemon produced a number of these, of which the finest is this one- and two-story house. It is a New Orleans regional version of the Monterey, California, style, a popular genre for suburban houses in the 1930s with its asymmetrical composition and cantilevered second-floor balcony.
