The Averill Addition, between 6th and 11th streets, is a westward projection of the McFaddin Addition, but with longer blocks. Two of Beaumont's leading architects of the 1920s built their houses on this block. Douglas E. Steinman's father, Frederick W. Steinman, was one of the architects who established practices in the aftermath of Spindletop; Steinman's son, Douglas E. Steinman Jr., continued the practice until his death in 2000. Steinman's house is a Beaumont tribute to Warren and Wetmore's Donoghue House in Houston (
HN7), with its elliptical portico, fanlit front door, and steeply pitched roof with dormer windows.
