The former house of merchant George F. Horton was one of the many wood buildings from Texana that were dismantled and reconstructed in Edna in the years immediately following its founding in 1882. The house exemplifies a variant of the Gulf Coast cottage type especially noticeable in Fort Bend, Wharton, and Jackson counties: a four-bay-wide version that incorporates a pair of front doors flanked by single side windows rather than a single centered door flanked by pairs of windows.
