Before 1777. 175 Spring St.

This three-quarter gambrel with pedimented door was the home of a wealthy merchant. His son John married Hannah Babcock, daughter of Dr. Joshua Babcock of Westerly. Their portraits, his by John Singleton Copley, hers by Joseph Blackburn, are in the Worcester Art Museum; the sign from his Thames Street store, the Golden Eagle, is now in the Newport Historical Society.
