1872, George C. Mason and Son. 66 Ayrault St.

On this, George Champlin Mason's most assertive chalet-style house, ornamental timbers define the major rectangular window openings. Its most prominent visual feature is the diagonal cross bracing across the second story. If this is really structural bracing, it is vastly overbuilt for decorative purposes. The chalet inspiration of this year-round residence, built for the rector of Trinity Church, is emphasized in the ornamental details of sawn eave brackets and acorn-shaped droplets.
