Built when the owner moved from Moffitt Mill, this shop remained in business well into the twentieth century; thereafter, abandoned and dilapidated, it nevertheless survived, until it was moved across the road from its original site and piously restored as a blacksmithing establishment with its original sign—but so overrestored as to appear new, at least until it weathers. Survivals of small workshops like this little board-and-batten building are rare, and rarer still when they continue to house the ancient craft (itself here revived) which they long served.
