Philadelphia's most imaginative city house of the late twentieth century incorporates an office, interior court, house, and parking on a double lot. Its palette of materials—green slate, stucco, and gray-painted steel calculated in modernist fashion—contrasts with its neighboring buildings while continuing the expression of function and material that link it to Frank Furness's industrial architecture. The open plan of the first floor, punctuated by a stair as sculpture with spaces defined by low partitions, flows into the large interior court that makes the house an oasis in the city.
