Contrasting with the plainness of the Quakers across the street is the Episcopal complex that had its beginning in 1855 with a chapel by Gries. Rebuilt in 1860 by Upjohn of New York City, it was augmented by the Gothic Revival St. Margaret's Home in 1895, designed by Germantown architect Pearson. He also designed the present late Victorian stone church of St. Luke in 1907.
