Christ Episcopal Church's simple mid-nineteenth-century building was transformed by Potter's imaginative refacing with a spectacular brownstone tower and spire. The tower is embellished by a primitive vine rinceau across the base of the spire that is reminiscent of English architect William Burges's muscular Gothic designs. The choice of Potter as architect marks the continuing New York City connections through the Lehigh Valley where Potter designed the first buildings of Lehigh University (
