Fargo’s Bishop John Shanley selected the site for this red brick Gothic Revival cathedral. The block, which includes the cathedral, a rectory, and the former St. Mary’s elementary school (
CS16.1
), is suggestive of a medieval close, forming a grand setting for what might otherwise be an architecturally less distinguished building. Recent remodeling of the church has simplified the interior and enhanced appreciation of the stained glass windows.
