Manistee's principal commercial district was developed along River Street, which curves along the south bank of the Manistee River. The buildings are primarily, but not exclusively, two-part commercial blocks with stores at street level and offices and meeting rooms above. They are constructed of brick, with heavy cornice lines, and brackets under the eaves.
