Pereira and Pereira, well-known theater architects of Chicago, built this ultramodern streamlined feature film theater for the Butterfield Theatres. The reinforced-concrete building is faced with cement plaster and two-tone brick veneer. The entrance is deeply recessed within a half circle and leads to a modernistic lobby originally decorated with indirect lighting, a mirrored ceiling, and walls of figured wood depicting historic scenes of Manistee. In 2010 filmmaker Michael Moore announced plans to assist local volunteers in revitalizing the Vogue Theatre and derelict theaters in communities across Michigan. Having purchased the theater in 2010, the Manistee Downtown Development Authority is stabilizing the building and pursuing rehabilitation options.
