With its steeply pitched and pinnacled gable roof, elaborate bargeboards, oriel window, tracery, and delicate Tudor-arched veranda, the Prouty house is a rural interpretation of Gothic Revival. The cottage was originally set well back from the road and surrounded by foliage, consistent with advice in the writings of Andrew Jackson Downing.
