Part of the Sloan complex on East Campus, this building, endowed by Grover Hermann, known as an architect and builder of corporate enterprises, houses the Dewey Library for Management and Social Sciences. Like its neighbor, Eastgate (MT28), it is composed of cast concrete with two upper stories projecting above a slanted base and entrance. Access is by way of a low stepped platform. A large paved plaza enlivened by an area for talk and food, with its finished multigrained round tables accompanied by circular seating, fronts the building. Picasso's Figure découpée (1963), a cut-out figure incised in cast concrete and representing a bird viewed from multiple directions, is a prelude to the plaza.
