This is a strong building by virtue of its size and almost isolated setting. Visible diagonal structural braces and the building's towering rooftop setback pavilion are landmark features in the city skyline, whereas its foundation walls at the street level ignore the surrounding context. Here stood the second meetinghouse at the head of the central market square for colonial Boston.
