Although its original brick walls have been covered with stucco and its roof with rubber, the romantic charm of the Arts and Crafts style Engine House No. 19 flourishes. Its charm depends primarily on the picturesque massing of its form. The octagonal hose tower with rough, primitive quoins; the irregularly formed, stone arched entries; and the steeply sloping roofs with bungalow dormers and overhanging bracketed eaves were meant to complement the domestic architecture of the nearby suburban neighborhood.
