This two-story clapboard structure has an entry portico beneath a pedimented window in the central bay, but drops its Greek Revival aspirations in the two simple vernacular wings. Imposing for its commanding site on Bates Hill rather than its design, the schoolhouse is propped up by a massive stone retaining wall. It was revamped as the police department in the mid-1990s.
