Harding and Upman's design for the City Bank followed a common Beaux-Arts model for small, inexpensive bank buildings. Solid granite for the base and deep entablature plus attic, wide tan brick pilaster-fronted wall segments, and iron-barred ground-story windows were combined to give an image of secure, impenetrable structures. Large upper-story windows that fill the span between pilasters imply a single volume, top-lit interior, a typical bank business room. August Getz and Sons built the bank for $16,000.
