Consecrated by Bishop Meade of Virginia in 1840, the building reflects the architectural conservatism of the Episcopal Church during the antebellum period. With its double doors and lack of a central aisle and an altar, it might be mistaken for a Baptist church. Exactly when the pointed-arched windows were installed is unclear, but it may have been before the Civil War.
