Originally rainbow hues of green, yellow, and blue highlighted details on the fanciest house in Lake City. Sawmill owner Harry Youmans had the town's leading contractor build this Carpenter's Gothic showplace. Eastlake trim decorates the unusual corner entry porch, which is topped by a little octagonal tower. First- and second-story bays and porches are adorned with ornate wooden brackets, balcony trim, bargeboards, and cutout gable ends. Between the first and second stories, the shiplap siding alternates
with wood panels and a shingle skirt. Saloonkeeper Alex Carey bought the house around 1900. His heirs have restored it from the stone foundation to the finial atop the entry tower.
