Among the most desirable building sites in the Chatham Crescent development were those fronting the spacious Atlantic Avenue mall, where the divided street flanks a generous green space and palmetto-lined walkway. Built for prominent Savannah lawyer (and later mayor) Hitch, the house stands back on its site, fronted by a landscaped and terraced front yard. The Mediterranean Revival house features stone-trimmed windows set against the stucco walls and crowned by a dramatically projecting and bracketed cornice, where small windows indicate a third floor. A porte-cochere on the north side strays slightly from the symmetrical composition. Witcover also designed the Spanish Colonial Revival house at 102 E. 44th Street.
