The Zimmerman House stands out for its exuberant Queen Anne style, one that is not well represented in Annapolis, and for the double lot that separates it from its neighbors as a fully detached residence. Indicative of Queen Anne are its irregularly massing, turrets, projecting bay, oriel window, balconette, spindled wraparound porch, and jigsawn trim. It is sided in a delightful mix of weatherboards and scalloped shingles and has a combination hipped and cross-gabled slate roof. It was erected for Charles Zimmerman, the band leader for the U.S. Naval Academy who arranged the well-known march “Anchors Away.”
