This distinctive Jacobean Revival building was one of two first erected on the new suburban campus of Baltimore’s State Normal School, now Towson State University. It served as the classroom and administration building, concurrent with the similar Newell Hall dormitory. Referencing the architecture of such English universities as Oxford and Cambridge, the style was popularly adopted by American universities during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It is now the university’s performing arts building. The campus has greatly expanded since 1915, most recently to include a modern state-of-the-art Science Complex (2018–2020) featuring a multistory atrium, created by Cannon-Design.
