1902, William E. Fisher and Daniel Riggs Huntington. 1801 York St. (northwest corner of E. 18th Ave.) (NR)

A French influence shows in the roundel roof windows and ornate voussoirs of this three-story mansion and two-story carriage house built by Frank L. Smith. Gray brick on a steel frame is ornamented with white terracotta under tiled hipped roofs, with fine interior wood-work. The letter S appears repeatedly in the plasterwork, making it clear that the family wanted to be remembered. One of a row of notable residences along the west edge of City Park, this Beaux-Arts mansion and its prominent carriage house served a long stint as a boarding house before both underwent 1980s restoration for office use.
