The faded name on the clapboard false front of the Miners Exchange recalls earlier times, when this one-story, round log building with a tin gable roof did double duty as a bank and a saloon. The proprietor kept cash on hand to cash miners' paychecks until the last and most lucrative mine, the Mary Murphy, closed in 1922. Instead of the usual bracketed Italianate false front, this building has relatively simple cornice and window treatment.
